It’s been about a month since the last devlog, and things have changed quite a bit. First, I’ve completely removed the Wyrd Threads and Spindle mechanics from the game. I kept trying to make them work, but in the end they were making the screen look too busy without a whole lot of useful information to give the player. They ended up looking like extra lines on the screen with different colors. Maybe they’ll come back as development progresses, maybe it was best to remove them early on. Only time will tell.
Second, I added actual UI to indicate player health, turn count, and a message log. Once I put these elements in, it instantly felt like a whole new game. Hell, the first iteration didn’t even feel like a game. But it does now.
There are also win and lose screens for when the player reaches the stairs or perishes. These may seem like small additions to an incomplete game, but they’re what has kept me working on this over the past few weeks. Here’s a screenshot of what Fimbul looks like now:

Until next time š¤
